Houcine MHEMDI
Houcine MHEMDI is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at ESCOM Chimie and a researcher at the Integrated Transformation of Renewable Matter Laboratory (TIMR-UTC/ESCOM) since 2013. He earned his engineering degree from the University of Sfax in 2009 and his PhD in Process Engineering from the University of Technology of Compiègne, France, in 2013.
Since joining ESCOM, Dr. Mhemdi has coordinated several research projects and industrial collaborations and has supervised numerous doctoral theses, postdoctoral researchers, and trainees. In 2022, he received his « Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches » (HDR) diplôma.
His primary research interests include innovative and sustainable techniques for the extraction, purification, and fractionation of biomass and bioproducts (insects, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables) within the framework of the biorefinery concept. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers, presented more than 60 communications at scientific and industrial meetings, and contributed to several book chapters.
Dr. Mhemdi is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the French Institute of Separative Techniques (where he serves on the scientific council and board of directors), the French Society of Fluid Particle Separation, and various research networks such as EP4Bio2Med and ISASF. He has also contributed to the organization and scientific committees of several international conferences.
