Verena Siewers

Verena Siewers is a Research Professor at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. She joined Chalmers after obtaining a PhD from the University of Münster (Germany) in 2004 and a postdoctoral period at the Technical University of Denmark. Her lab is interested in the development and exploitation of synthetic and systems biology tools to engineer yeast cells for a vast variety of applications. Such applications include (i) cell factories for the sustainable production of food ingredients, agrochemicals, biofuels, pharmaceuticals, or nutraceuticals, (ii) synthetic cell consortia that can be used for alternative food production or tissue engineering, (iii) efficient protein producers for the manufacturing of protein drugs, (iv) screening platforms to identify efficient enzymes or biochemical pathways or (v) whole-cell biosensors for detection of pathogens and antibiotic resistance.
